LUSH has given a donation towards the operating costs of two sisters whose parents were killed by militias during East Timor's independence referendum in 1999. They have developed a condition known as Scoliosis and their spines are consequently growing in an S shape, gradually crippling them. Without the operation, they will become very ill.

Gordon Charitable Trust: A local Bournemouth-based charity which provides grants to young people from Dorset who wish to train and study at college but don't have the means to do so.

The Kipungani Schools Trust:
This small-scale charity rebuilds and enlarges schools along the coast of Kenya, using local materials and with the support of local communities. They do not deduct any admin costs from the donations they receive, which means every penny donated arrives in Kenya.

They are concerned about air pollution, noise and climate change, and believe this huge amount of money could be spent on measures to improve public transport, rather than adding an extra lane to the motorway for it to just fill back up with traffic. Improving local facilities, so people don't have to travel so far, and encouraging walking and cycling will make our communities healthier and happier, as well as saving the planet.
